The Duarte Mayor’s Youth Council will launch the third Teen Movie Night event from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Duarte Park on Friday, September 13th. Duarte Park is located at 1344 Bloomdale St., adjacent to the Duarte Teen Center.
Created for teens by teens, the event will feature a hit movie and free hot dogs, hot ribs, and hot links provided by local non-profit Marvell West. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. The event is sponsored by Duarte Parks and Recreation and Public Safety Departments.
Leading off activities will be a Dance Battle competition. Contestants will have the opportunity to showcase their hottest dance moves and win prizes. Local youth clubs and vendors will be onsite with giveaways. After dinner, teens can relax with friends while watching the movie and snacking on complimentary popcorn and shaved ice. The event is open to teens in middle school and high school with School I.D.
The Duarte Mayor’s Youth Council is comprised of a group of teens grades 8 through 12, who are appointed to a one-year term by the Duarte City Council. The group meets on the first Monday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Duarte Teen Center. The Youth Council voices the opinions of local teens regarding issues that impact the youth of Duarte. Members learn from and contribute to the community by assisting in volunteer projects, networking, and communicating with city officials and community organizations. Members also participate in leadership and training programs, and contribute ideas through practical actions and programs in the community.
